Exploring “Notes from this Reality” – A Video Journey by Rob Sweere
A unique and contemplative video series by Dutch artist Rob Sweere, titled Notes from this Reality. This isn’t your typical cinematic experience — these videos aren’t built around plot, dialogue, or drama. Instead, they ask you to stop… observe… and really feel the world around you.
So, what is Notes from this Reality?
Each video is like a visual note: a quiet observation from our shared world, captured through the lens of stillness and deep presence. They might feature landscapes, weather, architecture, small details in nature, or seemingly mundane moments that, under Sweere’s eye, become poetic and powerful.
Rob Sweere is best known for his meditative art experiences — both visual and physical. In his earlier projects like Silent Sky Project#, he invited people to lie on their backs in silence and look at the sky together. It’s all about presence. Connection. And tuning into the reality that’s always there, but often overlooked.
Notes from this Reality continues this theme, but through moving image and sound. Rob shoots images with his small camera around the globe and adds specials sound compositions. Each episode is short – mostly under one minute – they carry a weight of attention that’s rare in today’s fast-paced media. There’s little or no spoken language. No commentary. Just image, atmosphere, and sound. You’re not told what to think — you’re invited to experience.
What makes this series so compelling is how it slows you down. It offers a counterbalance to the hyper-speed of modern life. Each video is like a deep breath — a way to reconnect with yourself and with the world in front of you. Not the virtual world. Not the curated world. But this world — the one you’re in right now.
There’s something almost spiritual about it — not in a religious sense, but in how it brings awareness to the quiet things: leaves moving in the wind, sunlight on concrete, a reflection in a window. Things we see every day but rarely notice.
If you’re looking for something different, something grounding, I highly recommend watching Notes from this Reality. It’s not about entertainment. It’s about attention. About tuning in. And in a way, it’s about remembering how to see.
In dutch language Sweere calls it: “Kijkend denken en voelend kijken.”
I invite you to use a good screen and good sound equipment.
